Intact dogs require a higher responsibility due to the risk of pregnancy. If you have a bitch in heat, please DO bring her to class, and please make sure to let the instructor know that she is in heat. She should be wearing a pair of “panties” and a sanitary napkin. Here are our two blogs about intact dogs.

Look through your book and determinewhich behaviours you can get marked off easily. Come prepared to get these marked off next week! That is what we will be doing for the first part of the class. Also look at the behaviours you find challenging; we will put these up on the board next week to work on through our remaining 7 weeks.

Review the section of your book that explains the quadrants. Remember that + simply means add, and - simply means take away. Reinforce simply means that the behaviour increased and Punish simply means that the behaviour decreased.

Notes on the Cued Take It: dog does not have to be doing anything. This is not a sit or down exercise; this is a whatever you happen to be doing, don’t touch the offered treat. Don’t wait for eye contact, but do wait for dog to look away from treat. The goal is simply for the dog to not pay attention to the food. Do moving cued take its if you need to convince your dog that this is not a sit or down or eye contact exercise – walk back and forth around the dog with hand out with treat in it. Allow dog to take it when they move away or look away from treat. Plan on testing your dog’s next level of Cued Take it this coming week in class.

Restrained recall  - how badly does your dog want to get back to you? Everyone’s dogs did really, really well this week! Practice your doggy ping pong and plan on getting that marked off if you don’t already have it. It is a good idea to play this with multiple people if possible.

We are going to be working on lots of leash work in this class. In preparation, review level one step/c/t. Make certain your dog is following your body, not following a line of single clicks and treats.
